About KLF Ceramics

I am a ceramic artist based in rural Hampshire, working from my garden studio.

Before moving into ceramics, I owned and ran a commercial patisserie business. Working in that environment taught me the value of consistency and attention to detail, leading me to produce work that is both decorative and functional. Those principles still guide how I work today, even though my materials have changed from food to clay.

I am interested in simple forms, organic shapes and textures, surface detail and pieces that feel good to use. Because everything is handmade, no two items are exactly the same.

I create in small batches and at a steady pace, allowing time for each stage of the making and firing process. Whilst I enjoy the immediacy of throwing, I also use slab building methods to create sculptural forms. I work with a variety of clays, selecting each based on what best suits the individual piece.

Living and working in a rural setting influences both the look of my work and the way I run my studio, encouraging a slower, more thoughtful approach.

Process

I use only the finest materials to create my ceramics, sourcing clay from local suppliers whenever possible. All work undergoes a minium of two firings in an electric kiln. Glazes are applied by hand often in multiple layers creating interesting variation My pieces are all handcrafted, and each item is unique. Due to the handmade nature of the process slight variations in form texture and finish are embraced as part of the character of each work, revealing the human presence in each piece.

Values

At KLF Ceramics, I believe in sustainability and ethical production practices. I strive to minimize environmental impact and support local communities. I also believe in creating beautiful, functional pieces that bring joy to our customers.
